California DTSC Could Target Salon Beauty Products For Alternative Analyses

State's Department of Toxic Substances Control cites concerns about salon employees working with hair and nail products in its final work plan for 2015-2017, which includes personal care as one of seven product categories under scrutiny. This year, DTSC expects to select up to three product-chemical combinations across categories of interest for evaluation under California's Safer Consumer Products regulation, which would require manufacturers to explore alternative substances and potentially reformulate offerings.
