California Legislator Eyes Safe Cosmetics Act 'Enhancement' To Protect Salon Workers

California Assemblyman David Chiu, D-San Francisco, has launched a Healthy Nail Salon Task Force and plans to introduce state legislation in 2016 to provide greater protections for nail salon workers. Spurred by the "national conversation" around the issue of toxic nail chemicals and labor exploitation in salons, Chiu says potential "solutions" the task force will explore include strengthening enforcement mechanisms in the state's Safe Cosmetics Act and mandating ingredient disclosure for professional beauty products.
