Halloween's Approach Resurrects Face Paint Concerns, Specter Of Lead Poisoning

In an Oct. 18 letter to FDA, Democratic New York Senator Chuck Schumer calls for an FDA crackdown on lead-containing face paint and novelty cosmetics, citing 'Made in China' products as particularly concerning. He points to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics' 2009 "Pretty Scary" study, which found 10 out of 10 tested face paints were contaminated with lead, and suggests that impurities should be identified on labeling.
