Jury Still Out On Feminine-Hygiene Talc Safety, Except In The Courts

Health and scientific authorities have taken various positions on the possible link between perineal talcum-powder use and ovarian cancer, including that the substance is safe as used, is "possibly carcinogenic" and that data is insufficient to allow for a conclusive assessment. Juries in J&J talc trials have been more convinced of the talc-cancer correlation and the firm's negligence in not warning consumers about risks.

Health and scientific authorities may be unconvinced that non-asbestiform talc poses cancer risks, but juries in the US are finding evidence more compelling in recent cases pitting ovarian-cancer victims against Johnson & Johnson.
