Rep. Meng Urges FDA To Ban Harmful Colorants From Feminine Washes

While feminine wash products are labeled for “external use,” FDA should recognize that they are used internally by consumers and adjust relevant colorant restrictions accordingly, the congresswoman suggests in a letter to agency Commissioner Robert Califf. The New York Democrat presses FDA to respond to a year-old citizen petition on the matter from NGO Women’s Voices for the Earth.

FDA should prohibit manufacturers from “mischaracterizing” feminine-wash products as “for external use only” and alter its colorant regulations to reflect common consumer practices of using the products internally, according to Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y.
