CIR Seeks More Information On Preservative PHMB

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel says it needs additional information regarding preservative polyaminopropyl biguanide before it can make an assessment regarding its safety. The group is working to secure unpublished data on skin sensitization and will look more closely into reports of anaphylactic reactions and lung injuries.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel finalized five safety assessments and advanced five reports at its April 10-11 meeting in Washington, but needs more information to continue its review of preservative polyaminopropyl biguanide.
