Kecia Steelman, Ulta’s chief operating officer who added president to her title in September, will continue overseeing work to combat organized retail theft, which impacted the company’s gross profit in the 2023 first fiscal quarter and continued to be a headwind in the second quarter, reported on 24 August. The retailer has installed new fixtures to combat the threat, placing fragrances and other high-priced items behind lock and key in more than 50% of its stores, with plans to have them installed in 70% of stores by year-end.
