The House Appropriations Committee will have a different chair no matter which party wins a majority of seats in the 2024 elections while retirement also will have Democrats losing their senior House Energy and Commerce Committee member.
The retirements following the current terms of Texas Republican Kay Granger and California Democrat Anna Eshoo also will mean the House will lose the two members who reached firsts for women in the chamber: Granger became the GOP’s first Appropriations chair in January and Eshoo during the previous term was the first women to chair the Energy
