Takeda Halts Prostate Cancer Vaccine Development

Takeda announced Oct. 17 that the company has decided to halt developing GVAX, a prostate cancer vaccine jointly developed with the U.S. biopharmaceutical company Cell Genesys. The decision is based on clinic trials conducted on 626 patients in Europe and the U.S., and the studies have not shown effective results in prolonging lives. Analysis shows the trial had less than a 30 percent chance of meeting its predefined primary endpoint of improvement in survival. Takada has been financing the development.
