India’s API Build-Up Plan To Bridle The Dragon

An Indian expert committee has recommended a raft of measures to revive and promote the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in the country, including the "judicious and liberal" use of anti-dumping duties and safeguards, with an eye on the country's huge reliance on Chinese imports.

While no direct reference is made to China in the recommendations of an Indian panel on the API industry, local firms have long emphasized the potentially crippling effect excessive dependence on China could have on India's own essential drugs supplies, should there be any turbulence in Indo-China relations.
