India Deliberates Orphan Rules

India is deliberating a string of initiatives to ensure that drugs for rare diseases reach patients faster and are available at "reasonable" prices in the country.

The US, EU and Japan, among others, have specific legislation to encourage research of rare diseases and the development of orphan drugs, and India's efforts to consider various incentives appear to be early steps towards this direction.
