There aren't many tools which are good at reliably determining the effectiveness of cancer drugs. Immortalized cell lines have long been used because they are consistent and readily available, but they aren't good mimics of the human condition. Human tissue would seem to be a better choice but samples are difficult to obtain and maintain.
