Surgen is a joint venture between the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Genset looking to identify genes associated with, and causative of, cardiovascular disease.

It's no coincidence that the people involved in the 50:50 joint venture formed between the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the French genomics firm Genset SA in the fall of 1997 [See Deal] celebrated the official opening of their research facilities in Dublin on July 8, 1998. On that very day, the Tour de France international bicycle race set out from Ireland for the first time ever.
