Diseases of the prostate constitute the second most prevalent type of chronic disease in the male population in the US, because they share with heart disease, the number one killer, a preference for men aged 50 and over. According to " US Markets for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Prostate Disease/Disorder Management Products," a report published in August 2007 by the Medtech Insight division of Windhover Information, in 2006 there were more than 234,000 new cases of prostate cancer as well as 1.4 million prostate cancer survivors.
