Fernando García Alonso, the director of the Spanish Medicines Agency (AEM), has succeeded María Victoria de la Cuesta as the new director general of the Directorate of Pharmacy and Healthcare Products (DGFPS) within the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs1. The AEM, according to a law that came into effect on 30 May 2003, will now collaborate with the DGFPS on pricing and reimbursement decisions. The new law, Cohesion and Quality of the National Health System , also reorganises the AEM to include the medical devices subdirectorate; once the agency is reorganised, it will be called the Medicines and Healthcare Products Agency (AEMPS).
