One sign of the revitalization of Puerto Rico’s life sciences industry is the expansion of the University of Puerto Rico’s Molecular Sciences Research Center. The Center is constructing the island’s first preclinical research center, which will enable it to move beyond basic research and establish more collaborations with industry.
Opened in 2012, only two floors of the seven-story, 152,000 square foot building are currently occupied. The first floor houses several centers, including the Materials Characterization Center, a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Center, a Proteomics Center and the Nikon Center for Excellence in Microscopy (the 11th in the world)
