Historic Inter-Korean Summit Sparks Hopes Of Healthcare Exchanges

Following the signing of the Panmunjeom Declaration after their recent historic summit, North and South Korea are poised to resume economic cooperation, including projects in the healthcare sector, in line with an agreement the two sides reached in 2007. Although progress will likely depend on the upcoming summit between the US and North Korea and whether international sanctions are lifted, hopes over direct inter-Korean exchanges are brewing.

NORTH AND SOUTH KOREA EDGE CLOSER

The historic inter-Korean summit that confirmed the North and South's goal of achieving the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and officially ending the Korean War, which left the countries technically still in conflict, has also sparked expectations for the resumption of economic cooperation, including in the healthcare industry.

As part of the Panmunjeom Declaration announced by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un after the summit on April 27, the two Koreas will actively pursue business projects which had been agreed during the signing of the October 4 declaration in 2007
