Bluebird 'Turns A Corner' With Lentiglobin Gene Therapy, Tests Remain

Updated results of studies of its Lentiglobin gene therapy using bluebird's new manufacturing process presented at the EHA meeting are encouraging but the real test will be in the longevity of its effects and the strength of its surrogate marker.

Questions remain over duration of bluebird's gene therapy

Bluebird bio Inc. says updated results for its gene therapy product LentiGlobin in both beta-thalassemia and sickle cell disease continue to raise the bar in these indications – a first marketing filing, in the EU, is on track for later this year.

The data from two studies in beta-thalassemia and one in sickle cell disease (SCD) were presented at the European Hematology Association meeting in Stockholm on June 15-16, and update previous reports at last year's American Society of Hematology meeting
