Two recent agreements to manufacture vaccines in Turkey indicate that the country’s government is making progress in its strategy of reducing its dependency on imports. However, there is a long way to go: at the moment Turkey’s $200m vaccine market – including 13 vaccines provided free of charge under its child immunization program – consists entirely of imported products.
Under its commitment to domestic production, the Turkish government has introduced various incentives including guaranteeing reimbursement. In the near term it has said priority will be given to manufacturing vaccines for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, varicella and hepatitis A
