The older antimalarial drug chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine sulfate (Bayer AG’s Plaquenil) are being studied as potential treatments for COVID-19 – but the US Food and Drug Administration has had to clear up the status after President Trump sowed confusion about the drugs during a 19 March White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing.
