Two subcommittee members – Reps. Ben Crenshaw R-TX; and Debbie Dingell, D-MI – authored the bill along with Ohio Republican Bob Latta and Colorado Democrat Diana DeGette, who are members of the full committee.

The hearing will be the subcommittee’s first since Virginia Republican Morgan Griffith was named chair in one of the leadership changes Brett Guthrie, R-KY, announced on July 15.

The subcommittee chair appointed at the start of the current session, Earl “Buddy” Carter, R-GA, left the post “to focus on other priorities,” notably campaigning as the GOP candidate for Georgia’s Senate seat currently held by first-term Democrat Jon Ossoff.  

Reauthorizing the OMUFA program scheduled for discussion for discussion by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee during a June hearing, when then-acting director of the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Jacqueline Corrigan-Curay, made clear that without reauthorization, all agency work started by 2020 legislation authorizing its overhaul of the program would stop.

However, HELP Committee members’ questions and comments veered far from OMUFA during the hearing and any suggestions for changing the regulations for the program were absent.
