On 7 April, Dallas-based US biotech company Colossal Laboratories and Biosciences made headlines by claiming to have brought back the dire wolf from extinction. While there is a debate on the merit of that claim, the company edited 20 loci of a grey wolf genome to make the newborns exhibit dire wolf traits, bringing the scientific spotlight back to gene editing.
