Securing a partnership with oncology leader Roche is good news for privately-owned Beaufour as it prepares to go public. Giving up US marketing rights-and not getting a quid-was a worthwhile price to pay.

Beaufour Ipsen SA played its trump card in December 2002, dealing key commercial rights to its most important pipeline project to Roche in return for more-than-respectable economics from the Swiss group.
