Novartis Slips Into Pfizer's Number One Pharma Slot Amid Leaderboard Shakeup

Pfizer has dropped to number seven in our top pharma rankings after a long reign. AbbVie has risen to number three, growing through merger expansion.

Pfizer Inc. gave up its reign as the number one pharma company in the world based on pharmaceutical revenues in 2020, handing the title to Novartis AG for the first time since 2016 in the Scrip 100 rankings. Novartis's pharmaceutical revenues grew in 2020 while Pfizer strategically pared down its business by spinning out its established products business, a move that dramatically reshaped the company.
