TCT 2016: OCT Improves Stent-Expansion In ILUMIEN III Trial

Results from St. Jude Medical's ILUMIEN III trial showed that optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be as safe and effective as intravascular ultrasound – and better than angiography – for guiding coronary stent implantation.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT)-guided coronary stenting using a novel optimization strategy was as safe and effective as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided stenting in the ILUMIEN III trial. It's now time for this OCT strategy to be compared directly to standard angiography guidance in a randomized trial evaluating clinical outcomes, investigators say.
