10 Senate Dems Line Up On Paper Behind Device Tax Repeal

There are at least 10 Democrats in the Senate who have either introduced device tax repeal bills in the most recent legislative session or signed on as cosponsors to a repeal bill. Those lawmakers could join all Republicans in the Senate to pass permanent repeal, but a busy Senate agenda and fiscal concerns could stand in the way.

The only barrier between a positive Senate vote on repeal of the medical device tax could be Senate leaders’ willingness to bring the tax repeal measure, S. 108, up for a vote on a floor. That could happen this year either in late August, or in September – although the chamber will be busy working on funding bills that must be completed before the new fiscal year starts on Oct. 1, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in June.
