DSM Makes Waves In Omega-3 Fish Oil With Ocean Nutrition Pick-Up

The Dutch ingredients company hopes to expand Ocean Nutrition Canada into a global omega-3 fish oil supplier for foods and supplements, as well as a source for pharma ingredients. With expiring IP on the Martek algal DHA process, DSM could be seeking a hedge.

Royal DSM NV expands its nutritional lipids business by acquiring Ocean Nutrition Canada Ltd., planning to grow the business into a global source for omega-3 fish oil and pharmaceutical ingredients.

The $532.6 million (Canadian $540 million) acquisition announced May 18 provides a complementary piece to DSM’s nutritional lipids business, which it built around Martek Biosciences Corp
