Manufacturer rebates can be used to reduce patient cost sharing at point of sale under the PBM's program. There is growing interest in the idea as a solution to lowering drug costs, but the practice could drive up insurance premiums.

ACVS Health Corp. program that enables manufacturer rebates to be applied to lowering patient costs for prescription drugs at the point of sale is being used by "several" payer clients as well as for CVS employees, the pharmacy benefit manager said.
