Operation Warp Speed Angles For Greater Role In Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacturing

Government offers help securing supplies in return for another 100 million doses by Q2. That would mean abandoning Pfizer’s preferred arms-length relationship.

The arms-length relationship between Pfizer and the US government’s Operation Warp Speed has stiffened as they negotiate terms for a contract option for a second tranche of 100 million doses of the Pfizer Inc./BioNTech SE COVID-19 vaccine.

Government officials are saying the negotiation turns on how soon Pfizer could produce the additional doses, and are suggesting that if Pfizer commits to delivering them by the second quarter of 2021, they are offering help, perhaps through the Defense Production Act,
