In a first for drug products, the US Food and Drug Administration has imposed a countrywide import alert on alcohol-based hand sanitizers from Mexico because so many of them have turned out to contain methanol, which is toxic when used on the skin and deadly when ingested. Previous countrywide alerts have targeted food products.
