Soon after entering Family Dollar Distribution Inc.’s warehouse in West Memphis, AR, on 11 January, a team of five US Food and Drug Administration investigators responding to a consumer complaint saw signs of an issue at the facility.

They found rodent excreta pellets on the warehouse floor, 25 at one spot, 25 at another, 50 at a third.
