Trial Sponsors Seek New Countries As Russian Market ‘Falls Into The Abyss’

The Russian clinical trials organization ACTO says the “gloomy” prospects for multinational clinical trials in the country have led many sponsors to postpone the initiation of new studies or abandon them entirely in favor of other markets.

Russia’s war on Ukraine led to a sharp fall in the number of new international multicenter clinical trials (IMCTs) being conducted in Russia in the first half of this year, and the clinical trials market in Ukraine has also suffered a heavy blow.

However, while trial activity in Ukraine is likely to be “quickly restored” once hostilities cease, opportunities to carry out trials in Russia “have been lost for a long time,” says the Russian Association for Clinical Trial Organizations (ACTO)
