REACH Regulators Aim For Safe Use, Not Crackdown On Nanomaterials

In its evaluation process under EU chemicals law, ECHA is not looking to “stigmatize” nanomaterials, but rather to ensure that they’re being used safely, says the agency’s Head of Evaluation Wim de Coen at ECHA’s eighth annual stakeholders day March 26. Meanwhile, the EC is committed to revising REACH law to provide more specific requirements for nanomaterials.

European regulatory authorities say they are committed to making the European chemicals law a framework for the safe use of nanotechnology, rather than a means to crack down on use of the materials in the EU.
