FDA Proposes Early Detection System For Consumer-Good Contaminants

CFSAN says the program in development would involve a center-wide, coordinated and systematic effort to identify and then move signals about contaminants through a review, management and follow-up process. Ideally, the process would enable FDA and other agencies to respond early to chemical threats.

FDA is developing an internal system to detect and alert agency officials to “signals” of potential chemical contaminants – including from intentional adulteration – in cosmetics, dietary supplements and other products within the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition’s purview.
