Cosmetics Industry Urged To Halt Use Of Preservative MI In Europe

Cosmetics trade groups in Europe recommend companies discontinue use of preservative methylisothiazolinone in leave-on products, while the Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety releases draft opinion indicating no safe use for the ingredient in leave-on products. The European Commission is expected to take regulatory action on the ingredient soon.

Companies in Europe are directed to immediately discontinue use of preservative biocide methylisothiazolinone (MI or MIT) in leave-on personal-care products due to the ingredient’s link to adverse skin reactions.
