CIR To Present Draft Report On Infant Skin At June Meeting

Cosmetic Ingredient Review’s Infant Resource Document provides the organization’s perspective on neonatal and infant skin and chemical absorption risks to guide the CIR Expert Panel’s future reviews and development of related reports. Generally, the group believes the stratum corneum is an effective barrier in infants at or around birth, but infants’ ability to metabolize chemicals versus that of adults is not as well understood, according to the draft document, which the panel will review at its meeting in June.

In June, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel will revisit an Infant Resource Document, which lays out the group’s existing knowledge and outlook on newborn and infant skin and whether babies are uniquely vulnerable to health risks associated with topically applied cosmetic ingredients.
