TiO2-Containing Cosmetic Powders Subject Of Prop 65 Settlements

Five marketers of cosmetic powders containing titanium dioxide particles have agreed to settle with NGO the Public Interest Alliance LLC in a case brought under California’s Proposition 65 regulation.

NGO the Public Interest Alliance LLC has claimed its first victories in a lawsuit against nearly 100 cosmetics firms charging the companies are violating California's Proposition 65 regulation by using respirable particles of titanium dioxide (TiO2) in powder makeup and powder sunscreens without properly warning consumers.

On May 20, California’s Alameda County Superior Court approved settlements between the organization and five marketers of facial powders: Dr. Hauschka Skin Care Inc., Murad Inc., Tarte Inc
