AHPA Condemns Prop 65 ‘Labor Code’ Mechanism, Deference To IARC

The American Herbal Products Association joins its voice in opposition to Prop 65 regulation stemming from the program's labor-code mechanism, including the planned listing of aloe vera whole leaf extract and goldenseal root powder as chemicals known to the state to cause cancer. Their identification as such is based on the work of a “quasi-government” international agency that overlooks important scientific criteria, AHPA says.

One of the mechanisms California employs to identify toxic substances and require Proposition 65 warnings on products, most recently for use of aloe vera whole leaf extract and goldenseal root, is a closed-door process that ignores important scientific evidence, according to the American Herbal Products Association.
