DeLauro, Durbin Reheat Proposal For Separate Food Safety Agency

Sen. Richard Durbin and Rep. Rosa DeLauro introduce legislation to create a single, independent food safety agency from current oversight “split up among 15 different agencies.” Trade group executives say it is likely the 2015 bill will have the same fate as previous versions – passing neither the House nor the Senate.

The Food Safety Modernization Act’s far-reaching changes do not deter Capitol Hill critics of food and dietary supplement industry oversight from again proposing to create a separate agency from parts of FDA, the Department of Agriculture and others.
