Microplastic, Macro-Headache: European Cosmetics Industry Dismayed By Early Signs In Restriction Process

Initial committee debate as to whether ECHA’s proposed microplastic restriction meets regulatory threshold requirements for substances posing “unacceptable risk” was shorter-lived than industry advocates anticipated, following the contentious proposal’s issuance at the end of January. Cosmetics Europe was optimistic that the European Chemical Agency’s microplastic restriction proposal issued in January would meet with some resistance in committee chambers, but early indications from meetings in June have been less than encouraging, the trade group says.
