CIR Expert Panel Finds MCI/MI Preservative Combo Safe With Caveats

CHART: At their December meeting, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review’s toxicology experts finalized four ingredient reports and issued five tentative safety assessments, plus four insufficient data announcements. The Expert Panel’s MCI/MI decision essentially upholds its 1992 stance on the preservative mixture, while highlighting its sensitization potential.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review’s Expert Panel determined the preservative mixture of methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI) safe for use at its 9-10 December meeting in Washington, albeit with stipulations concerning sensitization potential.
