Dublin, Ireland-based development firm Nemysis Limited has taken a decisive step towards launching in the EU a supplement it claims can treat iron deficiency without negatively impacting the gut microbiome after securing a novel food positive opinion from the European Food Safety Authority.

EFSA’s panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens judged that iron hydroxide adipate tartrate (IHAT) was a source from which iron was bioavailable and safe as a novel food
