FSA Review Could Shake Up UK's Approach To Novel Foods

The Food Standards Agency is critically evaluating the UK's novel foods authorization process to ensure it strikes the optimal balance between promoting innovation and protecting consumers. Alternative approaches for regulating novel foods are being explored by the UK as part of a review which could shake up how certain dietary supplements are approved for sale.

The Food Standards Agency is working with consultancy Deloitte on a review of the novel foods framework to assess the current regulatory

“As part of the review, we want to look at a range of potential regulatory models, taking into account the UK regulatory landscape and drawing on different international regulatory models and stakeholder views,” FSA stated in a 16 February announcement
