UK Considering Radical Changes To Novel Foods Regulation

Prompted by Brexit, the UK is weighing up an overhaul of how novel foods are regulated. The Food Standards Agency has drawn up options for new regulatory models, some of which it says represent a "radical" departure from the current framework.

“Radical options” for changing the way novel foods are authorized the UK are under consideration as part of the Food Standards Agency’s review of the existing regulatory process.

“Depending on the appetite for change, a new regime could represent a significant departure from the EU-based model of regulation that the UK has established over the past 40 years,” FSA stated at a recent board meeting
