The cosmetics industry has been working to promote development and regulatory acceptance of non-animal methods at least since the EU banned the marketing of cosmetics containing animal-tested cosmetic ingredients in March 2013 “irrespective of the availability of alternative non-animal tests.”
In fact, trade associations in the space have been focused on accelerating the availability of such methods since the early 2000s when the EU’s cosmetic animal testing prohibitions were still being legislated
