During the final quarter of 2017, biopharma start-up fundraising showed a 17% decline from the previous quarter, a total of $2.62bn compared to $3.17bn in the third quarter. It was a continuing downward trend, as the second quarter saw a total of $3.86bn in start-up financings, but the year ended better than it began – the first quarter total was just $1.66bn.
And, biopharma start-up fundraising in the last three months of 2017 was up by 31% over the $2bn raised by biopharma start-ups in the final quarter of 2016
