Like many companies, Axcella Health Inc. is a biotech that diverted from its original business plan after learning more about the strengths and weaknesses of its platforms. It began life in 2011 as Pronutria Inc., seeking to bring high-quality proteins to a broad customer base, but shifted focus about three years ago to develop drugs for metabolic and other diseases from finely tuned combinations of amino acids.
