Big pharma must bet on biotech if the industry is to tackle the looming issue of superbugs, argues the Access To Medicine Foundation.

Pharma companies should diversify by acquiring small biotechs developing antimicrobial and antifungal products to help address the problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), according to the foundation’s research program manager Fatema Rafiqi.

“Few are willing to take this strategy because it’s such a risky field,” Rafiqi told Scrip in connection with the foundation’s 2021 AMR benchmark report
