China has cleared for sale the world's first inhaled vaccine for COVID-19, as China continues to face challenges to its strict "COVID Zero" policies, including a new extended lockdown in a major city, ahead of the upcoming high-stakes National Congress.

To help combat any COVID-19 outbreaks ahead of the high-stakes Chinese Communist Party’s National Congress on 16 October, when President Xi Jinping is expected to extend his rule to a third term unprecedented since the end of Mao Zedong's rule in 1976, regulators in the country have vowed to accelerate new drug and vaccine approvals.
