Pharmaceutical cold chain products are growing in number, complexity and reach. While life sciences organizations and their partners have been steadily investing in capabilities to effectively manufacture and distribute them, scaling them at the speed of innovation in an era of increasing regulatory and environmental requirements is more and more challenging.

Today, about 70% of pharmaceutical products are temperature-sensitive – including tissues, mRNA vaccines, blood and blood components, and cell and gene therapies (CGTs). These products rely on the cold chain, and lapses in that chain, such as poor logistics planning, untrained staff, improper handling, or unsuitable packaging, can lead to wastage, lost revenue, noncompliance, and put patients at risk.
